Everyone Needs a Push Sometimes

I went for my first bike ride of the year today and I didn’t realize how out of shape I had gotten. It’s been a year and two months since I’ve been working from home and there were days when I would be on the computer from 8:30 in the morning until 8:30 at night.

Due to all of the other projects I was working on, there were many times that I would even work on the weekends to try to meet deadlines or to get ahead.

I had to get the hang of balancing again, the bike hurt my butt LOL, along the way a jogger passed me twice, a senior lady cruised by, but I kept moving my legs, I refused to stop going.

My sister and I decided to take the trail and we saw a German Shepherd coming in our direction. We stopped to see where it was going and who it was with. A senior citizen eventually came up and stopped nearby. He was catching his breath. We stayed and talked to him for a while. He told us that 3 months ago he couldn’t walk from where he was standing to the tree, it was approximately ten steps. He had been diagnosed with congestive heart disease and high blood pressure. The dog was a service dog that had been bought to help him. His doctor had regulated his meds and his dog was pushing him to get active, even when he didn’t want to.

Before we ended our conversation, he told us to go in the direction of the stables where they keep the horses for the mounted police. All of a sudden the trail started going downhill and we were flying. It was so exhilarating to feel the wind pushing us, literally giving us our second wind.

After our bike ride I started reflecting on the day-the runner, the senior lady, and the senior man that we had come in contact with.

  1. Sometimes we need a little push.
  2. Don’t focus on the distractions along the way.
  3. You can count someone else’s steps or judge their journey. (Stop comparing yourself.)
  4. All in divine timing.

Sometimes we get so caught up in what we see that we can miss the lesson that’s right in front of us. When you’re on a journey, you can’t stop and compare yourself to someone else. They may not have started where you started, they may not be going where you’re going, and even if they get there first, you will get there when it’s your time.

The battle that takes place in the mind is the first battle that needs to be won. What are you going to push yourself to do today?

“When you’re on a journey, you can’t stop to compare yourself to someone else…You will get there when it’s time.”
